However your arms feel most comfortable, the chair can support you. You can also slide each armrest back, forward, left, or right on its arm by pressing the button on the inside of the arm, and twist them left or right 15 degrees each. The large armrests are covered in PU rubber and are also adjustable, letting you customize the height of each one by pulling a lever on the outside of the arm. We don't recommend leaning back this far, though, since the balance of the chair felt very precarious in this position, even with the tilt mechanism locked. Every gaming chair we've tested so far has a reclining mechanism, but the Max is the first one we've tested that can recline to a completely flat 180 degrees. The Max is extensively adjustable, with a pneumatic cylinder that can raise and lower the entire chair with a pull of the right paddle under the seat, a tilting mechanism that can lean the chair comfortably back if you keep the left paddle under the seat unlocked, and a reclining function that unfolds the back of the chair from the seat. The chair rolls on five 2.5-inch PU rubber-coated casters, slightly smaller than the three-inch casters of the DXRacer Racing Series, but still quite capable of rolling around smoothly under my weight. The upper base of the Max is made of steel, while the lower base is made of solid aluminum, a standard configuration for gaming chairs. The material doesn't feel quite as dense and sturdy as the PU (polyurethane) leather of the SecretLab Titan, but it still has a nice feel.

While we can't predict how long the pleather cover of the Max will last with average wear, it feels soft and supple, and notably less vinyl-like than other chairs we've tested like DXRacer's Racing Series OH/RV001. The headset is a bit less firmly padded, but still provides enough support and works well with the included cushion. The sides of the back also seem solidly padded with no discernible cavities. It's generously padded, particularly around the seat and lower back. The Max is made of cold-cure foam padding covered in faux leather, with a steel upper base and aluminum lower base. They both easily slide on with elastic straps. The smaller cushion slips over the top to serve as a headrest, and the larger cushion attaches to the lower half to provide lumbar support. The chair comes with two rectangular cushions you can attach to the back. After that, all you have to do is pop on the plastic levers on the upper base to give access to the seat adjustments, and screw on the covers to protect the metal brackets on the sides of the back of the chair. Connect the top of the cylinder to the upper base and turn the chair upright. Insert the castors into the five legs of the lower base, then drop the pneumatic cylinder into the center of the base. Flip the chair over and bolt on the upper base. Screw the bolts in to attach the two halves together and tighten them with the included Allen wrench. To assemble the chair, you need to remove the four bolts from the sides of the back and hold the back against the metal brackets connected to the seat. The chair comes disassembled, with the seat with armrests, back, wheeled base, upper base (that mounts to the underside of the seat), pneumatic cylinder, castors, and plastic handles and covers all separate. Putting the Max Gaming Chair together is fairly simple, but it will help if you have someone assist you due to the size of the parts. This is AKRacing's largest chair, but the company's other gaming chairs are no slouch for larger users every other model in AKRacing's Core and Masters series have maximum weight capacities of 330 pounds. I'm a fairly large 250 pounds and found myself swimming in the Max's very accommodating seat. It will probably feel a bit too roomy for people with smaller frames, but if size is a factor, this chair is worth your consideration. It's a big chair with a high weight capacity that can suit most generously proportioned users. For larger gamers, AKRacing offers the $499 Max Gaming Chair in its Masters Series line. Gamers come in all shapes and sizes, which is why gaming chairs also come in different sizes. 180-degree fold-flat reclining feels precarious.
